CoLRiC is keen to encourage appropriate people to become assessors. The first step to becoming an assessor is to be trained, from which you obtain an assessor's certificate.Trained assessors receive £150 plus expenses for each college assessment they make on behalf of CoLRiC.
Criteria to become an assessor
You must be from a member of CoLRiC, or in some cases individuals who are members of CoLRiC.
You must also have the correct professional qualifications and experience. If you are from a learning resources service background, you should:
- have at least 3 years experience with management responsibility in a college learning resources service (e.g. head of an element of the learning resources service or deputy)
- had active professional involvement, such as regular attendance over the past three years at professional meetings
- be a qualified librarian (i.e. gone through a course of librarianship)
- have further education experience
If you are not from a learning resources service background, you should:
- have a minimum of three years further education experience
- be a regular user of a further education college learning resources service
Procedure to become an assessor
When you request a training pack or the desire to become an assessor, you will be sent:
- a copy of the training procedure document
- a training registration form
- a registration fee invoice
- the list of fees
- an assessor application form
You need to complete the forms and return them to CoLRiC with the registration fee. On receipt of these, CoLRiC will send you:
- the Training Pack
- the Peer Accreditation Criteria
- Guidelines to the Criteria
The Training Pack is intended to give you most of the information you need to know to assist you to do an assessment. A self assessment exercise using the Criteria and Guidelines to the Criteria must be carried out.
When you feel you are ready to complete the training, contact CoLRiC and register for the training day. An invoice will be sent to you for the training day fee.
When the invoice is paid, you will be sent the following:
- Index to the Guidelines
- Case Study (Quarry College)
- Criteria matrix
You will also be advised of the venue and dates of forthcoming training days. Contact CoLRiC and register yourself on to one of the training days (which will probably be a Saturday)
Turn up at the training day with all the necessary documents. The day will run from 10.00 a.m. until 4.00 p.m.
On completion of the day, should you be successful, you will obtain a certificate. You will also be required to sign an agreement between CoLRiC and yourself, saying you will act as an assessor for CoLRiC. Your name will be added to the register of assessors.
